Our operations are focused in Erdenet city, the second-largest city in Mongolia and home to the Erdenet Mining Corporation—the largest copper and molybdenum ore mining and beneficiation complex in Asia. The mine was initially discovered in 1963 and officially inaugurated in 1978. Annually, it exploits 39.6 million tons of ore. The Erdenet Mineral Processing Plant processes 37.2 million tons of ore each year, producing 26 million tons of copper and molybdenum concentrate. Beyond mining and mineral processing, Erdenet is home to a robust infrastructure network, including a strong thermal power station and light industries such as non-ferrous metals, food production, wood processing, and carpet manufacturing.
As a company rooted in Erdenet and located next to the mine, we recognise our social and environmental responsibility to the local community. Therefore, we play a crucial role in regional environmental restoration and conservation, particularly in reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, mitigating the negative impacts of mining, and contributing to a greener future.
We have a strong commitment and are convinced that reforestation and afforestation activities are the main nature-based solutions for tackling the effects of climate change
Reforestation is crucial in combating or preventing deforestation and forest degradation and to revert a situation where forests shrink in size or are completely removed.
Deforestation results in a reduced capacity to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2), negatively affects wildlife habitats and contributes to the likelihood of flooding in certain areas as the soil cover is degraded.
Afforestation can also help avoid desertification, the process in which fertile land turns into a desert as a result of drought often in combination with or intensive land use such as overgrazing. As well as for commercial foresters as for landowners afforestation is essential to ensure that they can grow wood for manufacturing wood products and can meet demand in a sustainable way.
